Refilling water bottles at Walmart

jrcrilly said:At least you can get whatever volume you want. The cheapest RO water around here is outside a Riteaid store. $.25 pergallon but you put in a quarter and a gallon comes out. I wanted to refill several 2.5 gallon containers but could only put 2 gallons in each . Some of the local grocery stores have setups inside and they probably work as you describe. I’m done anyway, as I just ordered a charcoal filter to cleran up my tap water for brewing. At $.25/gallon it wlil take a long time to pay for itself, but it should be much more convenient.

While there may be slight differences in the taste and mineral content of different types of water, for the most part, theyre equally healthy.

Which Water Brands Should You Avoid

The main culprit here is the water’s pH level. The pH level, you may remember from middle school chemistry class, is the number that tells you how acidic something is. The lower the pH, the higher the acid level, and the bigger the risk to your enamel. Most tap water has a pH of 6-8, which is about neutral. When the level gets below four, your teeth are in serious danger.

According to a study in the Journal of the American Dental Association , some enhanced waters fall way below the threshold. Walmart’s enhanced water selection includes Gatorade, which can be a serious risk. The Frost Riptide Rush, Lemon-Lime, and Orange flavors fall under “seriously erosive,” and seven other flavors fall under “erosive.” Same with Powerade twelve flavors are seriously erosive. Other erosive waters on offer at Walmart include Propel, Dasani’s flavored sparkling waters, and a bunch of Vitaminwater flavors.

So next time you find yourself in Walmart’s beverage aisle shopping for enhanced water, check the pH. Or, if you want to be extra safe , bring your water from home. Your enamel will thank you.

Don’t Buy This Bottled Water At Walmart

Nestle Pure Life Purified Water, 5

You might think that all the bottled waters you can buy at Walmart are basically the same. After all, it’s just water you drink it, you get hydrated, how much more can there be to it? Turns out that there’s one type of water bottle that Walmart sells that you should definitely steer clear of: acidic enhanced water.

Enhanced water any of the water drinks augmented with additional flavors, vitamins, and/or minerals can pose a serious risk to your dental health, according to the Washington Post.

As Edmond R. Hewlett, a professor at the UCLA School of Dentistry and consumer adviser for the American Dental Association, explained to WaPo, some of these enhanced waters can cause major tooth erosion, “the incremental dissolving away of the enamel on the teeth, which, over time, can affect their structural integrity, making them hypersensitive to temperature and potentially more cavity-prone.”

So if you want to avoid stripping away your enamel, steer clear of certain enhanced water brands at Walmart.

The Difference Between Distilled Water Spring Water And Purified

  • Yeshiva University

When a hurricane flooded our nearby water purification plant, our tap water was no longer safe for drinking, cookingbasically anything besides showering. And I had a newborn baby in the house, drinking a bottle of formula every three hours. Needless to say, I got acquainted with the water sold in the grocery store real fast. And the choices were downright overwhelming.

Where were the days of simply picking a few gallons of bottled water off the shelf? Why did I now have to choose whether I wanted drinking water or purified water? And what was the difference anyway? Wasnt all bottled water the same? Turns out, not so much.

I did what any mother would do in my situation: I bought a half dozen gallons of each kind and lugged them all home. Something was bound to be good enough for my baby and the rest would have to be good enough for me.

The EPAs website finally answered my questionsafter a few quick clicks, I was a water connoisseur. Now I pass that wisdom on to you, my dear readers.

What Is The Healthiest Water To Drink

Every day, you consume lots of water from foods, beverages like coffee or tea, and pure water. As such, its only natural to be curious about the quality and safety of your water sources.

All drinking water in the United States is tightly regulated. For the most part, its completely safe. Meanwhile, other sources of water may be unsafe to drink.

This article reviews the different types of drinking water, things to consider regarding water quality and safety, and the best types of water to drink.

1 ):

  • Tap. This is the water you get from your taps at home. It may come from a municipal water source or a privately owned well.
  • Mineral. Mineral water comes from underground sources. It naturally contains at least 250 parts per million of minerals from dissolved solids.
  • Spring. Spring water is water from an underground source that rises naturally to the surface, like a spring. It must be bottled at the source.
  • Distilled. Distilled water has had its minerals removed. This happens through a distillation process where the water is vaporized and then condensed back into liquid form.
  • Purified water. Purified water is water thats been treated by reverse osmosis, absolute one-micron filtration, ozonation, or distillation.

Most tap water undergoes purification processes like distillation or reverse osmosis. Meanwhile, some bottled waters may simply be unprocessed tap water. Just because water is bottled doesnt necessarily mean it is mineral or spring water .

Downsides Of Certain Types Of Water

Refill 5 Gallon Water Jug Yourself – Save $$$

There can be downsides to certain types of water.

All water, regardless of whether its bottled or from the tap, carries a risk of becoming contaminated at the source. The contaminants can be either harmless or potentially harmful pathogens like E. coli, which can cause severe gastrointestinal illness .

If your tap water comes from a municipal water source, its likely monitored and regularly tested for the presence of pathogens. However, if your tap water comes from a private well, you may need to hire an agency to regularly conduct a quality test .

Contaminated bottled water will be subject to recalls from the FDA.

A downside to consider relating to bottled water is the generation of large amounts of single-use plastic waste. Oftentimes, its unnecessary if you have access to safe tap water.

Lastly, bottled water generally also comes at a higher price point than tap water.

Thus, if you live somewhere with safe tap water, opting to drink this instead of bottled water can cut down both your expenses and how much plastic waste you generate.

Summary

There are several different types of drinking water, but all are essentially equally healthy. All drinking water carries some risk of becoming contaminated. Bottled water produces single-use plastic waste and may be more expensive.

Do Grocery Stores Sell Distilled Water Where I Live Where Should I Look

Great Value Distilled Water, 1 Gallon

I had a phone call today from a customer in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He bought a Durastill Water Distiller yesterday, but since they are on backorder he still needs to get bottled distilled water to meet his needs until he gets his new distiller.

He called me and said, “I have looked at both of the grocery stores in Jackson Hole and there is no distilled water. The shelves are bare! What should I do?”

I told him that he may have to drive to another city to find distilled water. Unfortunately, the largest city near Jackson Hole, Wyoming is Idaho Falls, Idaho, which is about a 200 mile round trip drive. Before you go to all of these grocery stores on a wild goose hunt for distilled water, you should see if there is a local bottled water store that makes distilled water. There are many bottled water stores that make lower quality, reverse osmosis water. It is very difficult to find a distilled water store, but it is worth a try. You should find one if you live in a large metropolitan area like Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, New York City, Phoenix etc. They may even offer home delivery of distilled water in 5 gallon bottles or may offer pickup at their store. In addition to a specialized distilled water store, here is a list of stores where you could possibly find distilled water in 1 gallon bottles:

  • Ace Hardware
  • Your Local Mom and Pop Grocery Store
  • Your Local Pharmacy

Is Distilled Water Safe To Drink

Distilled water is completely safe for use, but the downside of distilling is that it removes all of the helpful minerals like calcium and magnesium that occur naturally in tap water. For that reason, it isn’t generally recommended to use distilled water as your daily drinking water, and you may find that it lacks flavor.

You also need to choose any storage container you use for distilled water carefully. Distilled water’s lack of nutrients can cause it to leach chemicals from the container it’s stored in. If you plan to use the water immediately, most containers will do fine, but for long-term storage it’s best to use glass or high-quality stainless steel.

What Are The Different Types Of Water

If you don’t know the difference between tap, filtered, purified and distilled water, don’t feel bad. It can be confusing.

Tap water is the easy one. Turn on your kitchen faucet. Water comes out the tap. Voila! Tap water. The quality of tap water varies by location, and might contain traces of minerals specific to the geology of your region, as well as traces of chemicals used in municipal water treatment. Hopefully your tap water is safe to drink, but that’s not true for as many as 45 million Americans. Filtered water is one solution.

Filtered water starts out as plain tap water. You may already have filtered water in your home by way of a whole-house filtration system, a faucet filter or a water filtration pitcher . Most filtered water passes through some combination of carbon and micron filters, which help to remove chemicals such as chlorine and pesticides, and metals like copper or lead. Filters can also eliminate foul odors and tastes. Purified water usually begins as tap water as well. It will go through many purification processes, including those used for water filtration. Purified water goes a step further than filtering, with a process that removes chemical pollutants, bacteria, fungi and algae. You’ll often find purified water in bottles at your local grocery.

Where To Find Distilled Water At Walmart

When you walk into Walmart you may be thinking, “Where to find distilled water at Walmart?” and “Exactly what aisle is distilled water in Walmart?” There are many different Walmart store layouts and sizes it depends on if you are at a Super Walmart, Neighborhood Walmart or regular Walmart store. I called the Walmart Corporate headquarters 1-800-925-6278 the get more information. They were super nice and helpful, this is what I learned:I want to save you time by going directly to where the distilled water is. You will find the distilled water in the grocery section of Walmart on aisle A27 and baby section on aisle L12. You can check wallmart.com online and choose a store and then search for “distilled water”. It will show you the aisle location of that particular store. There are actually 2 different departments in the store that could have distilled water:

  • Grocery section on aisle A27. The Great Value distilled water is on the same aisle with all the other kinds of bottled water. It is usually opposite of the Gatorade and Soda Pop.
  • Baby section on aisle L12. The Parents Choice distilled water is usually near the baby formula, but it may also be on an end cap. Sometimes you will find it as a “double feature” which means it is in two places in the baby section on the end cap and in the aisle.

The Cheapest Bottled Water at Walmart Will Probably Surprise You

Do you remember what it felt like the first time you went to the grocery store and saw the shelves completely empty? I know I felt shocked, stunned, confused, anxious, and I couldn’t help feeling panic trying to creep into my mind and heart. At the same time it was kind of funny… I laughed because I felt like I was in a Zombie Apocalypse movie or some end of the world movie. But honestly, that first time I saw the grocery store shelves bare and items out of stock with buying restrictions, I admit it was kind of scary and nerve-racking. Unfortunately, seeing bare grocery shelves seems sort of normal now. This picture is the distilled water isle at Walmart. I have checked it every week for the last 4 weeks and it has been completely out of stock. What is even more worrisome is that it is not being restocked. It’s not like the stock is low and there are still a few 1 Gallon bottles of distilled water there are none. I also went to 4 different Walgreen stores to find 1 gallon jugs in 2 different cities. I checked Target yesterday and they were completely sold out as well. The KSL news story below follows a couple who went to 10 different stores searching for distilled water, but this same scenario is repeating in every state.

Can You Buy Walmartcom Distilled Water

Yes, you normally get walmart.com distilled water online. But unfortunately it is sold out because of the the distilled water shortage. I would recommend you keep checking the website to see when it becomes available. Many of the physical stores are also out of stock and have empty shelves. My local store has been completely out of stock for 4 weeks now. I would recommend calling around to several stores and ask them if they have distilled water in-stock before you drive to the store. Don’t forget to ask them if it is Great Value or Parents Choice . FYI – You DO NOT what to use Parents Choice with minerals added in a CPAP machine. The minerals can build up and damage the machine. If you are using distilled water daily then checkout our home water distiller for cpap!
