Lake Afton Park is a large park that is operated by Sedgwick County. This park is located a few miles west of Wichita, and it features a large campground. Lake Afton Park offers limited hookups, and there is a public observatory on-site.

Although we visited in January, the park was free of fallen leaves. I dont know where the complaints came from of maintenance needed for this park. Santa Fe Lake is a popular lake to the east of Wichita. The park on the south side of this lake features a small campground, and limited hookups are offered there. You can rent a kayak at Santa Fe Lake & amp Campground, and it is also the perfect place to take to the water on a Jet Ski.

In an effort to extend our vacation and casually travel back home from Colorado, we looked at RV parks about halfway between our prior spot and home. We Google-map searched for RV parks and found this beautiful place! The office in the 1-room schoolhouse is charming, and self-checking was a breeze. Even after hours, we could purchase firewood and ice. Our spot, #11, was HUGE: We could park a large RV, our truck, and another small RV or truck if we needed to do so. The site had a fire ring but an adorable new tree, plus a picnic table, and plenty of room on the side for a large rug and many chairs. And the price: Very low, especially compared to KOAs, and we had a Good Sam discount. While we had our RV, the cabins, built in a style you might see on this prairie a century ago, were beautiful! Waltzing Waters 605 S Wichita Street
The Fountains at Waterwalk are for visual entertainment rather than splashing in. Thursdays through Sundays throughout the summer, you can watch a 10-15 minute choreographed show at noon, 8 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m. The shows incorporate music, lights and water in a choreographed display to different genres of music, including country, classic rock, classical and 80s rock. The fountains are located at 605 S. Wichita Street, east of Gander Mountain.

The City of Wichita said staff will be onsite at swimming pools from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday for late registrations for swim team, lessons and rentals. If weather improves, an attempt to be made to open pools from 6:30-8:30 Tuesday night that decision will be made at 5:30 p.m.
The YMCAs indoor pools remain open.

Dozens Got Sick After Visiting Kansas Splash Park Cdc Study Finds
GODDARD, Kan. A new federal study said dozens of people got sick after visiting a splash park near Wichita, Kansas, last summer.
The study by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that 21 people contracted Shigella bacteria and six others became sick with the norovirus after visiting the splash park at Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard.
Another 36 people reported gastrointestinal illnesses after visiting the splash park but didnt have lab tests confirming what caused their illnesses, according to The Wichita Eagle. At least four people were hospitalized afterward.
Previously, state and local health officials had said that eight people who visited the park contracted Shigella and other people tested positive for the norovirus, sapovirus and a type of E. coli called enteropathogenic E. coli.
The CDC report is based on a survey of 404 people who visited the splash park last year between May 28 and June 19.
At least three lawsuits have been filed against the splash pad. One of those was settled, but two others remain pending.
The director of the wildlife park Matt Fouts told the newspaper he didnt find the study useful although hes all for analyzing data to learn from the past.

Buffalo Park Water Playground
10201 Hardtner Road: The splash pad at Buffalo Park is lots of fun. This prairie-themed water playground has native limestone, sculptural grass-like overhead sprayers and an assortment of ground jets. A buffalo head sculpture that sprays and mists water welcomes patrons to the plaza, which has a colored concrete pattern inspired by the grass seeds of the prairie. Native grasses surround the area. In addition to the fun water spray area, Buffalo park has an outdoor open shelter and picnic tables, a circular drop-off area, and restrooms.

This little park in downtown Wichita is getting an upgrade. Im not sure if or when the splash pad will reopen. This cute little bronze statue of a girl playing in a stream becomes a splash fountain when the water is turned on in the summer. Kids or anyone, really are welcome to play in the stream of water. The best place Ive found to park is along the side street or back behind Reflection Square on William Street, where there is metered parking.

- Last summer, dozens of people including children, became violently ill after visiting the waterpark section of Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, Kansas
